Newcastle United Foundation were crowned European champions in the 3rd EFDN European Walking Football Tournament held in Newcastle Upon Tyne in May 2023. A superb tournament consisted of 18 teams across Europe including Bayern Leverkusen, Benfica, Ferencvaros Budapest, Rangers, Real Betis, FC Schalke 04, Morton in the Community, Valerenga Football, Frankfurt, Motherwell FC (x2), Walking Football Scotland, Bohemian FC, Chelsea Foundation, Burnley FC in the community, Foundation 92, and Newcastle United Foundation (x2).
In the first group stage Newcastle United Foundation (1) won 4 games, and drawing 1 to win their group taking them into group seeding all winners of the first groups stage including Morton in the Community, and previous winners Schalke 04. Newcastle United Foundation and Schalke 04 both defeated Morton in the community 2-0 setting up a a precious final game between the two sides. Newcastle United Foundation through phenomenal play claimed the European title defeating Schalke 04 in the decisive game 1-0.
A fantastic achievement that greatly rounded off a superb full day for all teams involved, with a great football on show in good spirit throughout. Newcastle United Foundation would like to thank everyone involved in creating a special event.
